FAQ

What approach to/ style of yoga will I learn?

You’ll study vinyasa and hatha yoga grounded in trauma-informed practices, embodied anatomy, and nervous system awareness. We’ll cover everything from dynamic flow classes to meditation, breathwork, and restorative practices.

Do I have to come to Santa Barbara or can I join remotely?

Both options are available. You can attend in person at our studio in Santa Barbara or participate via livestream. Either way, you’ll have full access to the teaching team, community, and curriculum.

How much yoga experience do I need before starting?

We suggest having at least 6 months of consistent practice before beginning the training. You don’t need to master handstands or deep backbends—what matters is that you’ve developed a regular relationship with yoga and feel ready to go deeper.

What if I’m doing this just for myself and don’t plan to teach?

Perfect. Many of our students come to deepen their own understanding without any plans to teach professionally. This training transforms how you relate to your body, breath, and mind—regardless of whether you ever lead a class.

Will I be certified when I finish?

Yes. This is a Yoga Alliance-registered 200-hour training. When you complete the program, you’ll be eligible to register as an RYT-200 with Yoga Alliance.

When does the training meet?

Fall 2026 session runs October 14 –December 20. All sessions are in-person at Yoga Soup with a Zoom option available to attend virtually.

The weekly schedule is:

  • Wednesdays: 5:30-7pm
  • Fridays: 2-5pm (no iRest)
  • Saturdays: 9am-12pm & 1:30-6:30pm
  • Sundays: 9am-12pm & 2:15-6:30pm

What happens if I can’t attend every session?

We get it—life is unpredictable. If you need to miss time, we’ll help you make it up through additional assignments, recordings, or practice teaching. Just stay in communication with us.

Will there be books to read?

Yes, the required texts are:

  • Light on Yoga by BKS Iyengar
  • Yoga Body by Mark Singleton
  • When Things Fall Apart by Pema Chödrön
  • Yoga Anatomy (third edition) by Leslie Kaminoff and Amy Matthews
  • My Grandmother’s Hands by Resmaa Menakem
  • The Bhagavad Gita
  • The Yoga Sutras

Will I actually know how to teach when this is over?

Yes. You’ll practice teaching in small groups throughout the program with live feedback. By graduation, you’ll understand how to sequence a class, cue students safely, and hold space with confidence—not just in theory, but in practice.

What do I need to do to graduate?

You’ll need to:

  • Show up for all sessions (or arrange approved makeup work)
  • Finish all reading and written assignments
  • Complete required practice teaching hours
  • Attend public classes and observation sessions
  • Pass a written final exam

Can I pay in installments?

Yes, we offer payment plans. Contact us at trainings@yogasoup.com to discuss what works for your situation.

Are there scholarships?

We have limited scholarship funds available, including specific support for BIPOC students. If you’re interested, complete the scholarship section of the application.

Can I do the 200-hour and 300-hour together?

Yes. If you want to pursue your RYT-500 credential, you can enroll in both programs and receive $500 off the total tuition. Just note that on your application.
