This workshop offers a brief introduction to Mindful Self-Compassion (MSC). During this hour, Hattie and Anahita will teach one of the essential meditations from the MSC program and will discuss the scope and format of the upcoming 6-week course. Research demonstrates that mindfulness and self-compassion are powerful factors in resilience and well-being, and they are skills that can be learned and cultivated in a short period of time. This workshop is valuable on its own or as an introduction to the upcoming 6-week program.

*Please note the introductory sessions on 8/23 and 9/6 are identical. You are invited to attend on the date that works best for you.

About the Teachers:

Hattie Bluestone, DPT is a local meditation teacher and yoga instructor. She received her bachelor’s degree from Harvard University and her Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from the University of California, San Francisco. Hattie has practiced meditation since 2006, including many week- and month-long silent retreats at Spirit Rock Meditation Center in the Bay Area. She completed her 200-hour yoga instructor certification under the mentorship of Kelly McGonigal, PhD. Hattie especially appreciates how the Mindful Self-Compassion curriculum reminds us of our common humanity, reminding us that we are not alone. Anahita Holden, PhD is a licensed clinical psychologist, meditation teacher, and yoga instructor who specializes in the integration of psychotherapy and evidence-based mindfulness interventions. She received her doctorate degree from UCSB and has a private practice in downtown Santa Barbara. Anahita has practiced Vipassana meditation for over ten years, and completed the Mindful Heart Programs facilitator training under the mentorship of Radhule Weininger, PhD. Anahita is also a musician and offers sound healing meditations throughout the community. Anahita especially appreciates how the Mindful Self-Compassion curriculum offers tools that weave together compassion for oneself with compassion for others and our world.
