Ashtanga Yoga and Arm Balancing
Sarah Hathaway has been teaching and practicing yoga for over ten years. To her, Ashtanga vinyasa is the practice of embodied meditation, including the tristana of breath, bandha, and drishti, to open experience and awareness. The quietness of Ashtanga allows one to deepen into a field of sensation, unmediated by the analytical mind, and felt as presence. This presence radiates out in relationship to others as compassion calls us to find peace with ourselves and others. The gift of the practice is gentle and potent redirecting of psychological currents, called granthis (mind-body knots), and as these cleanse and heal the ego identification may soften and we may more deeply understand our collective unity.
