Teaching Yoga in Prisons and Rehabilitation Facilities

The Prison Yoga Project, in collaboration with Yoga Soup and Prison Yoga Project Santa Barbara offer a Special Training for yoga teachers and committed yoga practitioners interested in working with at-risk populations, including the incarcerated. James Fox, Founder and Director of Prison Yoga Project will lead the Training drawing on his experience of teaching yoga and mindfulness meditation to incarcerated youth and adults, including thirteen years at San Quentin, and other jails and prisons.
The weekend Training is intended for anyone interested in bringing yoga to underserved or traumatized populations and will include:
PYP’s evidence-based, mindfulness infused approach to adapting yoga for those impacted by trauma, including the incarcerated.
An in-depth orientation for teaching yoga in the unique socio-cultural environment of prisons.
A thorough investigation of the practical application of yoga for emotional and psychological issues.
Strategies for establishing yoga programs in detention centers and rehabilitation facilities.
Instruction in specific asana, pranayama and meditation practices that have been proven effective with prisoners.

Join James Fox and Prison Yoga Project participants for an in-depth look at how yoga and meditation practice is changing the lives of incarcerated individuals in Santa Barbara County and throughout the world. Former students/released prisoners discuss how yoga and meditation practices have changed their lives and prepared them for reentry to society.

If you pay a registration fee and later find you must change your plans, you can either transfer your fee to a later Training or ask for a refund. Our policy is to refund the amount less an administrative fee of $25. If you have to cancel within twenty four (24) hours of Training or after Training has begun, we will refund one half of the total fee because our expenses accelerate dramatically. The more notice you provide, the more likely we can fill your spot. We appreciate your understanding.
